This book analyzes the expressive methods of the kimono through splendid photographs and texts written by an expert in the history of Japanese customs and fabrics. The vast amount of information on the colours, fabrics and decorations typical of traditional Japanese dress combine to form a portrait of this form of expression and, more generally, of Japanese culture, art and thought. The sumptuous classical motifs and rich scenes woven, painted or embroidered on kimonos show a sensitivity – sometimes tinged with irony and a sense of humor – to beauty that is exquisitely Japanese.
